Eddie Fisher Quintet - The Third Cup

While not as heralded as his excellent "Next Hundred Years", this album (presumably Fisher's first, on Cadet at least) should not be slept on. It has two great cuts, none finer than the title track - a super smooth, sublime ballad that ranks with the best of soulful jazz guitar I've heard from cats like Grant Green and Wes Montgomery. For a little more uptempo flavor, flip to the B-side and play out "Two By Two," a snappy, straight-ahead number that would have sounded perfect on a late '60s Blue Note or Prestige LP.
